NTMA is the name I give to any projects I’m involved with, although the majority of my work is done solo. There is no background or concept to my music other than that: I simply enjoy making things that I think sound good, regardless of genre. The track I’ve included on this compilation, ‘Pedestrians’, is from the ambient half of my latest EP ‘Immediate Professional’ and is perhaps the best representation of the music I make – not only do I find it interesting as a aural piece, but it’s also emotionally intriguing. This track reflects my feelings and observations when being surrounded by a group of people in public and my natural awkwardness and anxieties.

In terms of influences, I’ve been soaking in music consistently since I was about 4 or 5 years old and so specific influences on my music are hard for me to detect exactly, although a listener may find them easier to pinpoint. Dereck has possibly been the biggest influence on me releasing my music and setting up my one-man independent label. Perhaps some musical influence from him has seeped through, but it’s hardly surprisingly since we seem to share a lot of favourite groups, such as Genesis, Can and The Beatles.

I’m currently recording a follow-up to ‘Immediate Professional’ so keep your eyes peeled. The influences on this one are far more obvious to me, particularly in terms of the shorter track lengths, which is the influence of The Residents’ Commercial Album. My love of Throbbing Gristle also reared its ugly (beautiful?) industrial head, so they will no doubt be in there somewhere. Finally, I’d like to add that it’s a huge privilege to be included in this project – great idea, Jeremy – and give my love to the VC overall.
